Jubilee Lawmaker Dies at Hotel in India

Kahawa Wendani MCA Cyrus Omondi has passed on.

Omondi is said to have died in a hotel in India, after suffering a heart attack on Wednesday, February 12 while on a benchmarking trip.

Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndichu confirmed the demise to the media.

Witeithie Ward representative, Julius Macharia, told K24 Digital that Omondi's death came as a shock to the Kiambu County Assembly fraternity.

“I received news of Omondi’s death via a social media platform that all Kiambu MCAs are on,” Macharia stated.

Theta Ward MCA Simon Kuria Wakarema alleged that the deceased Omondi was among MCAs in the Education Committee, who had attended a workshop in India.

“After they broke the news of Omondi’s death, all the MCAs in the Education Committee, switched off their cell phones, and none of us (in Kenya) could reach them,” Kuria stated.

Omondi was serving as a first time MCA in Kahawa Wendani following the 2017 elections.

He ran for the MCA seat in 2013 on an ODM ticket but failed. In 2017, however, Omondi tried out again in a Jubilee ticket and clinched the position.

The story of the ascend of the former mechanic into Kiambu County politics has inspired many in the area given his humble beginnings in the dusty streets of Kahawa area.

He had turned around the lives of his family including his mother, a fishmonger at the local shopping centre who was widowed by his father, - then an army officer at the Kahawa Barracks.
