The middle child in a family of five siblings was born in 1979 in Kitale to a curator father -who worked at the National Museums of Kenya and a mother who was a housewife.

Her eyes lit up when she spoke of how industrious her dad was, "I used to joke with my friends that we were supposed to be one of those rich families and that my dad would probably have been president by now," she jokingly narrated.

However, in 1983, her life took a turn for the worst after her dad got involved in a road accident that led to his admission to the Nairobi Spinal Injury Hospital.

"The seriousness of his accident really hit home when he didn't come back home, not for 1 week, not for 1 month but for 7 years,

"He was admitted in 1983, he then came back in 1990," she recalled.

Prior to the life-changing accident that left him wheelchair-bound, Chebet's hardworking father had set them up at a two-storeyed mansion in the countryside, was involved in several businesses and was the proud owner of a Volkswagen Combi - a rarity and a preserve for the rich in society at the time.

According to official reports covering the accident, Chebet's dad, who has since passed on, was headed to pick the children from school at about 1 p.m. when it happened.

Maisha ilibadilika sana kwa sababu (Our life really changed) he was the breadwinner, life was never the same after that because he was the breadwinner,” Chebet revealed.

She spoke of him in glowing terms, explaining that it was quite hard to fill the void left by his industrious nature.

Quizzed on what effect the tragedy had on her person, she was quick to point out that 'resilience' was the one trait she had picked during this trying phase of her life.

The media personality has worked with KBC, Citizen TV, CCTV and K24, before her current lucrative post at Metropol TV.

Chebet is a proud mother of two girls - a 14-year-old and a 2-year old.
