On Wednesday, March 25, Kenyans on Twitter asked Deputy President William Ruto to donate towards the coronavirus pandemic.

Using the hashtag Weston, Kenyans requested the DP to allow those traveling from other countries to self-quarantine at the hotel.

Most argued that Ruto was fond of making donations in churches and should, therefore, help with the current predicament.

"The Kenyan chief philanthropist who claims to have Kenyans' interest at heart has been donating millions and millions to churches every Sunday. Lately, haven't seen him donate anything for the fight against Covid-19 or even offer," Wayne Brian commented.

"Still waiting for a reply from the Weston owner to give out his hotel for free as a quarantine center for the Covid-19 victims," Philip Otieno weighed in.

"Kenyans have been calling Ruto all manner of names when he gives donations in the country. They now want him to donate. Are you sure you're not going to say he stole that money when Corona is finally over?" another questioned.

The hotel in question, Weston, is relatively close to Mbagathi Hospital, a facility where patients testing positive for coronavirus have been isolated since the first patient was announced on Friday, March 13.

The government on Tuesday, March 24 shared an official list of hotels in Nairobi and Mombasa which are being used to quarantine visitors coming into the country.

The list was shared hours after reports surfaced of visitors complaining over excessive delays and confusion over the order to quarantine all passengers arriving at airports, including the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Some of the quarantine hotels announced on March 24 include Hill Park Hotel, Hilton Garden Inn, Hilton Nairobi, Safari Park, Pride Inn Hotels, Jacaranda Hotel, Trademark Hotel, Four Points Sheraton, Boma Hotel, KMTC's, Kenyatta University and Kenya School of Government.

Others are Crown Plaza, Mombasa Beach Hotel, La Mada Hotel, Concord Hotel, University of Nairobi, KCB Leadership Centre, Cooperative University, The Clarion Hotel, The Comfort Hotel, Mashpark Hotel, Eka Hotel and Land Mark Suites.
