A 14-year-old has been arrested in connection with the murder of Pamoja FM presenter Mohamed Hassan Marijan.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations announced that detectives narrowed down on the juvenile after reviewing a CCTV footage.

"Following the appalling murder of 62-year-old Mohammed Hassan of Pamoja FM Radio, DCI detectives today arrested a 14-year-old juvenile positively identified after an analysis of IC3 CCTV footage.

"In a group of four others, the suspect accosted the deceased who was heading to his place after duty at the said radio station, violently robbed him in which process they stabbed him on the left side of the chest killing him instantly," the investigative authority explained.

Marijan was murdered by thugs while on his way home, at around 4 a.m. on Monday, May 4.

"It happened at around 4 a.m. He was hosting an Islamic show for the Ramadhan month. He is a man who is well known and I received a call after the incident happened.

"I saw his body and it had a lot of blood. He started working with us since Pamoja FM started. He is one of the people who has been there from the start," Pamoja FM Managing Director Hussein Adam stated while speaking with Kenyans.co.ke.

A few hours after he had passed on, Kibra residents lynched one of the suspects behind the murder.

Kibra Sub-county Deputy Commissioner Gideon Ombogi noted that investigations into the suspect's murder had been launched.

A report by the Medica Council of Kenya in May 2020, detailed that over 36 journalists have been attacked in the line of duty in Kenya, over the last 4 months.

"The key perpetrators according to our data is the police, political fanatics and unknown assailants in that order.

"This worrying increase symbolises a rise of impunity within the country as a quick look across other countries will show you that countries with good and just governance are the safest for journalists," MCK CEO David Omwoyo proclaimed while speaking to Kenyans.co.ke.
