A widely-circulated viral video which surfaced on Sunday, June 7 captured a shocking car accident on Nairobi's Waiyaki Way involving a salon vehicle and a passenger matatu.
The dashboard camera footage was shared by a driver who happened to be on the road when the accident took place on Saturday, June 6.
As indicated by the timestamp on the footage, it was around 5:20 p.m. when the saloon car moved into a different lane hoping to overtake the vehicle in front.
The driver, however, seemed to be moving too fast as the car found itself approaching the back of a matatu which was about to make a right turn at an intersection.

The driver could not veer off the lane in time since another car was already making a left turn. The speed of the car, however, meant that the inevitable impact had to take to place. The powerful collision sent the matatu tumbling off the road into a nearby ditch.
While the vehicles sustained major damage, it remained unclear if any motorists and passengers involved sustained serious injuries.
The shocking footage elicited various responses with many Kenyans calling for motorists to observe greater caution on the road to avoid accidents.
When driving on Kenyan roads, it is important to remember not to overtake from the left side as this may easily lead to a collision with oncoming traffic.
In line with guidelines from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), one must also be careful not to overtake along a stretch of road which features a continuous yellow line.
