Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi was on Monday, June 15, summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over remarks he made at a press conference in Uasin Gishu County on Monday, June 8.

The MP had claimed to have reliable information that members of the dreaded Mungiki sect were to be sent to the Rift Valley to stoke ethnic tensions.

Sudi was summoned to appear before the commission at 10 a.m. on Monday to shed more light on the controversial statements that caused a stir after the press briefing.

He had alleged that the plan by unnamed powerful individuals was to finance the Mungiki to cause chaos as part of a plan to clip the wings of Deputy President William Ruto.

"We know there are people who are planning to send the Mungiki here to Uasin Gishu, to do things they are not supposed to do.

"We know who they are, and they know themselves. Once the chaos begins, they will come and say it is the Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities at conflict because of politics.

"All of Kenya's communities live in the Rift Valley. Away from politics, we said we will never allow people to travel upcountry with beds tied to buses because of their ethnicity and fear of violence, we want lasting peace. So we are warning them that we are alert and we will not allow it," he stated.

Sudi reiterated that his intention in revealing the alleged Mungiki plan was to let those behind it know that they were aware of the plot.

At the same press conference, Sudi spoke on alleged threats and intimidation faced by allies of the Deputy President.

He accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of disrespecting Jubilee Party legislators and issuing chilling threats to those supporting the Deputy President.

Sudi claimed that the lives of Ruto allies were in danger and that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) were being used to harass them.

"The use of courts to intimidate people over their stand in politics will come to an end. We will work to attain true independence in this country, true freedom.

"Because what is going on is from the KADU and KANU era, and the children have come with the habits of their fathers. They don't care at all about the law or the new constitution," he stated.

Sudi questioned the efficacy of reforms proposed in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) when the present Constitution, in his view, was being disregarded by the Executive.

He maintained that no summons or threats of arrest would cause him to abandon his political beliefs.
