Jubilee MPs pushing for the ouster of Aden Duale from National Assembly Majority Leader are banking on President Uhuru Kenyatta to effect the changes after the Head of State summoned Legislators for a Parliamentary Group meeting.

The meeting comes days after President Uhuru received a petition signed by 130 MPs who are all seeking Duale's removal from the office.

A report by the Standard on Saturday, June 20, detailed that Kenyatta will chair a virtual PG after four State House members contracted Covid-19.

“The purge is on. The President has convened another PG and Duale will be kicked out. He received the petition from the MPs expressing their lack of confidence in Duale. We believe that he has gone through the petition and made a decision which will be communicated during the meeting," a source revealed.

The Legislators will camp at Kenyatta International Conventional Center where Uhuru is expected to unveil new changes within Jubilee's National Assembly administration.

Kieni MP Kanini Kega, who rallied Jubilee MPs against Duale, revealed that President Uhuru will announce new leaders to fill in the vacant posts.

A source close to Duale, however, differed with the report arguing that Kanini Kega was driven by ulterior motives in his bid to oust Duale.

"With this Coronavirus pandemic, Uhuru will not convene any meeting inside or outside State House no matter how far Kanini Kega pushes for it," the source stated while speaking with Kenyans.co.ke.

On Tuesday, June 9, Kenyatta intervened to save Duale by cancelling a meeting set to discuss his future

Speaking outside the Parliamentary buildings on Monday, June 8, Majority Whip Emmanuel Wangwe announced that upon consultations with the party leadership, the matter was shelved in pursuant of more urgent business.

Duale survived the first National Assembly purge conducted on Tuesday, June 2 and warned perceived rebels that the whip-cracking by Kenyatta was not yet over.

"In due course, we will do changes to some committees, mainly chairs and vice-chairs but I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag now because you have enough to report. I want to thank the President and the Parliamentary Group for showing confidence in my leadership.

“I am the first occupant of this constitutional seat. I did not feel threatened and I believe in God, destiny and commitment. I also believe there is nothing static in this world. I was first in this office but I believe there will come a time when I will leave," Duale stated.
