President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Monday, June 22, cracked up members of the press minutes after the conclusion of a Parliamentary Group meeting at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC).

In a video obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the head of state is seen dashing for his motorcade when he is stopped by journalists who then start engaging him on details regarding the meeting that led to the ouster of National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale.

He greets the reporters before proceeding to tell them that a full statement would be issued by his office.

"We want people to live in peace and unity. We shall soon reveal our plans," stated Uhuru before one reporter asked him for a sneak peek into the plans.

"Stop being cunning," the head of state responded amind bout of laughter.

As Uhuru appeared jovial, heartily engaging the reporters after the meeting, a video on another part of KICC shows Duale cutting a forlorn figure as he exited the venue where he declines to talk to journalists over what transpired at the meeting.

He only answered their questions with the statement "I am good. You already know (what happened)," before assuring them he would be sending a statement.

The meeting was also a departure from previous Parliamentary Group meetings that had been given a wide birth by leaders reportedly allied to Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Nominated MP David ole Sankok confirmed that Ruto, who was also present, was accorded a chance to speak as so were all the other leaders.

He further confirmed that all the leaders were required to leave phones outside the door as is normal practice when the head of state orders a closed-door meeting.

"All of us were allowed to speak and Ruto was given a chance and he said he had nothing to say. We were allowed to vote by ays and Nays.

"It is a normal practice that when the head of state is giving an address, no one is allowed to enter with a phone. We were over 200 and imagine if everyone was using their phone it would be a distraction," stated Sankok.

During the ouster of Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, a number of leaders skipped the meeting and some leaders had vowed to skip the KICC PG meeting.

The MPs, who are said to belong to a new outfit headed by the DP and christened Jubilee Asili, had threatened to attend the meeting via zoom while at one of the three locations the outfit reportedly secured.

Duale was replaced by Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya.
