Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah has responded after he was teased by his counterpart Junet Mohammed (Suna East) for being moved to the Member Service Committee, which was previously known as the catering committee.

Ichung'wah, who is among Deputy President William Ruto's allies removed from more powerful Parliamentary committee positions, stated that his new position would go beyond catering services.

"There are services that are being offered that are not catering and I know having come from where he comes from, catering is very important... I will take up this assignment with passion, energy and gusto," Ichung'wah stated.

Ichung'wah was backed by Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen who took to Twitter to encourage him to work his best in his new position.

“If a man is called to be a street sweeper...sweep streets ..as a Michaelangelo painted,or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry...Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ’Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well',” Murkomen wrote on his Twitter page.

Previously, Junet had made fun of Ichung'wah, stating that he would blame him if he did not get quality snacks when normalcy resumed.

"I know he will serve very well in the committee of member services known as the catering committee. Currently there is coronavirus and there are no services being provided but when we return to normalcy, if the quality of my tea and my mandazi goes down, I will only blame hon Ichung'wah," Junet teased.

Ichung'wah was a member of the Budget and Appropriations Committee that is of more consequence than the committee he was moved to.

Some of the functions of the Budget committee include; investigating, inquiring into and reporting on all matters related to coordination, control, and monitoring of the of the national budget, discussing and reviewing the estimates and making recommendations to the House.

Other roles include; examining Bills related to the national budget, including Appropriations Bills; and evaluating tax estimates, economic and budgetary policies and programmes with direct budget outlays.

On the other hand, the members committee deals with matters relating to members services and facilities.
