Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi joined the list of politicians spotted flouting Covid-19 rules as cases of the virus upsurge in the country following President Uhuru Kenyatta's directive to reopen the country.
Kenyatta while making the announcement on Monday, July 6, urged Kenyans to protect one another and adhere to Covid-19 measures which include social distancing, wearing masks, avoiding handshakes and sanitising.
Sudi flouted all the directives while addressing and interacting with mourners at a burial service in Kabenes, Uasin Gishu on Friday, July 17.
The Jubilee MP was seen shaking hands with mourners and not maintaining social distance. He was also not wearing a mask despite the Ministry of Health issuing mandatory guidelines on protecting oneself once in public.
During the service, Sudi ranted on mismanagement of Jubilee Party funds adding that he would decline his recent appointment to be a member of the Committee of Parliamentary Powers and Privileges.
"We are not beggars, we are the ones who formed the government but it is being driven by corrupt and selfish individuals," Sudi affirmed.
In March 2020, Sudi was among the leaders who urged Kenyans to support the measures being rolled out by the government to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Several politicians have been spotted addressing gatherings where crowds do not adhere to the health protocols. In June, former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale was arrested and released on cash bail after he addressed a rally in Kakamega County.
On Saturday, July 18, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja was detained at Kilimani Police Station after he was found drinking at a Night Club. President Uhuru Kenyatta declined to open bars while reopening the country on July 6.
According to the Ministry of Health, an individual can be fined Ksh 20,000 or face imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months or both if found breaking directives issued in line with the Public Health Act.
As of Friday, July 17, Kenya recorded 12,062 positive Coronavirus cases, with 222 fatalities and 3,983 recoveries.
