Gunmen Storm Shop in Nairobi

A gang of three armed men stormed a shop in Nairobi's downtown area and stole Ksh460,000 on August 8, 2020 at 5:20 pm.

In footage captured on CCTV camera, one of the suspects is seen standing outside the shop before a man with a checked shirt meets him.

The duo have a brief chat before the later walks in the opposite direction.

Minutes later, the suspect pretends to be stretching and in the process signals the man with the checked shirt and yet another man. The trio storm the shop and a minute later, walk outside with a carrier bag holding what is believed to be Ksh460,000.

"They came in with pistols and started asking for money. We surrendered and I just showed them where my counter was," the shop attendant told reporters.

Detectives have since called on the public to help identify the men in order for them to be brought to book.

There has been a spike in the number of robberies caught on CCTV cameras in the last couple of months.

In yet another incident, a gang of four men was captured on camera firing guns in a supermarket and stealing an unknown amount of money.

An eyewitness indicated that the gang had been hovering around the area for around 30 minutes before they made their move.

"The mama mboga's who were around told us that they arrived in the area with motorbikes and had been around the area from 7 p.m. looking at places that would be their target," he told Kenyans.co.ke.

Any person who steals anything and threatens to use violence to any person of property in order to obtain or retain the thing stolen or to prevent or overcome resistance to its being stolen or retained, is guilty of the felony termed robbery.

If a person is found guilty of robbery, he or she is liable to imprisonment for fourteen years.

However, if the offender is armed with any dangerous weapon or is in the company of one or more persons and attempts to wound, beat, strike or use any other personal violence to any person, he shall be sentenced to death.
