The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on Thursday, August 20, raised the red flag over fraudulent employment guidelines targeting teachers.

In a statement, the commission indicated that it had not issued any fresh teachers recruitment advertisement urging individuals to take caution of the fraudulent activities.

"TSC advises teachers to ignore the 2019/2020 teacher recruitment guidelines that are circulating on social media but with the year falsely changed to read 2020/2021.

"TSC is yet to release the 2020/2021 recruitment guidelines," cautioned the commission.

The repurposed guidelines from an advertisement issued in the 2019/2020 academic year required the teachers to present a National ID, KCPE and KCSE certificates.

Other requirements included primary and secondary leaving certificates as well a Primary Teacher Education.

Process for the recruitment

According to the repurposed guidelines, after the commission advertises for new positions (which they are yet to do), interested candidates are required to submit application forms to the county where they wish to be employed.

After a while, the shortlisted candidates are then invited to appear before the recruitment panel.

Candidates who sail through the process are then expected to fill employment forms before agents submit them to TSC headquarters.

After the documents land at the headquarters, TSC vets them according to their own guidelines before recruiting agents are informed of the results.

The commission also issues appointment letters to successful candidates who are expected to collect them within a stipulated time.

Applicants in the process must also be registered teachers. Those without registration certificates must attach a printout showing verified status as evidence of application for registration.
