Deputy President William Ruto's allies have laid down a strategy to convince ODM leader Raila Odinga to work with the DP.
The two leaders were a force to reckon in the 2007 General Elections before they fell out. Plans to have the two form a government are underway as indicated by the DP's camp.
Political strategist Eliud Owalo detailed that the tactical plan involves convincing Odinga to dump President Uhuru Kenyatta. Owalo previously worked for Odinga and Musalia Mudavadi as a strategist.
He claimed that Kenyatta was using Odinga to push for constitutional changes and that the Building Bridges Initiative will be used against Odinga himself.
"That is why we are urging Odinga to work with Ruto to foster a good relationship between the Luo and the Kalenjin communities. There is nothing wrong if the duo combines to form the 2022 government.
"Mt Kenya will not support Odinga. He should bag his votes from other strongholds as Kenyans vote on tribal affiliations," he added while speaking on a local radio station, Nam Lolwe FM on Friday, September 18.
He warned Odinga not to follow his father's (Jaramogi Oginga) footsteps. History alleges that Jaramogi was betrayed by Jomo Kenyatta after the latter ascended to power. Raila Odinga was also dumped by Mwai Kibaki after Kibaki became president.
Owalo claimed that with Ruto having faced the same frustrations through the 'deep state' and system, the two were better placed to work together and end the feud.
Odinga's camp, however, refuted any plans to endorse any other leader apart from Raila Odinga. In fact, his aides outlined a strategy to counter Ruto's growing influence.
The party revealed plans to tour the country, pushing for the Handshake agenda, the BBI and anti-donations to the youth targetted by Ruto.
"Raila was our presidential candidate in 2017 and we have not picked another person. He is still our best bet. We shall do all we can to support him for the presidency," ODM Chairman John Mbadi stated.
President Uhuru Kenyatta's allies have constantly spoken on endorsing Odinga for one term. David Murathe, Jubilee Vice-Chairman, dubbed him fit for a transitional President adding that Ruto may never ascend to Presidency in 2022.
