Businessman Shot Dead in His House at Night

A prominent businessman was shot dead in his house on Sunday night, September 20, in Kitale County. 

Jacob Omondi, 62, was shot four times in the chest by a gang of armed thugs who raided his home. Trans Nzoia county police commander Ayub Gitonga Ali confirmed the incident

The goons waylaid the deceased after trailing him from Kitale town for several hours and caught him unawares as he was feeding his dogs. 

Police launched a manhunt for the armed group as they also initiated investigation into the incident. Detectives, however, stated that they had not yet ascertained the motive behind the businessman's killing.

A relative of the deceased stated that the gang may have known the businessman as depicted from an argument which ensued moments before he was murdered. 

"When I rushed out to see what had happened, I found his body lying in a pool of blood.

"He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. He succumbed to the gunshot wounds," the relative stated. 

Area Chief Julius Onyancha urged residents to share any information concerning the businessman's death or any other information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects. 

A report by the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) dated May 2020, identified Nairobi, Mombasa, Kiambu, Meru as the most insecure counties in Kenya. 

According to the 2018 Annual Crime Report released by the National Police Service (NPS), Nairobi County was the murder capital leading with 235 homicides, followed by Nakuru 171, Kiambu 142, Meru 139, Kilifi 125, Machakos 109, Kisii 108 and Murang'a 100.

On Tuesday, September 8, Interior CS Fred Matiang’i launched  a cleanup process targeting illegal gun owners. This was after murder cases became rampant in the country. 

The CS Matiang'i affirmed that he was restructuring the country's firearms licensing regime and urged illegal riffle holders to surrender their weapons.
