Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and his Kandara counterpart Alice Wahome vowed that they would not be intimidated after Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai directed that they be tracked down and arrested for allegedly mobilising goons who caused chaos at Kenol, Murang'a county.
Speaking to the media on Monday, October 5, Nyoro declared that he had not received any summons.
In addition, he told Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, DCI George Kinoti and Interior PS Karanja Kibicho, that he was too busy to visit police stations to record statements.
"I have no time to come and record statements. You know those who propagated the violence, go for them. I am not coming to any office. I will not be used to cleanse murderers," Nyoro vowed.
Wahome, who also faces arrest, stated that she would not be scared into recording any statement.
"Kenyans have shed blood to be able to reach where they have reached, and I will not go to sanitize. Don't dare threaten us. We want you to go after the youth who were causing the chaos,"Wahome stated.
Further, Nyoro accused the Kieleweke faction (which supports President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga) of causing violence in the county.
"The violence we witnessed yesterday was state sponsored. The money came from OP Interior Ministry through Kibicho. Meetings had been organised and Sabina Chege (Murang'a Woman Rep) was dishing out money at Thika Greens," Nyoro alleged.
The Tangatanga and Kieleweke youth clashed at Kenol on the Thika-Murang’a highway on Sunday morning, ahead of Deputy President William Ruto's visit.
The scuffle in Murang'a started when a group of rowdy youth blocked the highway at Kenol, and started engaging their 'political' rivals in running battles.
Following the incident, Inspector-General of Police Hilary Mutyambai ordered for the arrest of Nyoro and Wahome.
The IG stated that the two mobilised goons who caused mayhem at Kenol.
"We urge politicians to desist from engaging in inciteful utterances and acts. Stern action will be taken against any person engaging in planning and executing unlawful acts.
"National Police Service remains committed to work within the law in discharging its mandate which includes and not limited to protection of life and property," read Mutyambai's statement.
