An inferno destroyed a number of dormitories at Masara Mixed Secondary School in Suna West Sub-County on Wednesday, December 9.
The incident happened late at night with property of unknown value destroyed during the heavy fire that engulfed the school premises.
Firefighters took time to respond to the night fire leaving little to be salvaged from the dormitories as students belongings were razed down.
There were no reports of injuries during the inferno as the students were in class for night preps when the fire broke out at around 9:30 p.m.
According to the school management, the fire destroyed dormitories that house at least 113 students.
The students were forced to spend the night in class after all their belongings were destroyed in the night fire.
Their belongings including bedding, school uniforms, boxes and mattresses were completely burnt down.
With only Form 4 students in school during the inferno after the partial reopening in October, the institution confirmed that only 76 students were present at the time.
It remains unclear the accommodation arrangements that will be made for the 76 students in Form Four - with the Ministry of Education requiring schools to maintain social distancing in boarding facilities.
The incident comes barely two months after a dormitory at Musingu High School, Kakamega, was razed down by the fire.
Clouds of smoke were seen emanating from the Oparanya hostel which was named in honour of Kakamega Governor, Wycliffe Oparanya.
There have been concerns about school preparedness to deal with fires as most are not contained in time posing a danger to students.
