Ex-NTV Journalist Wins MCA Seat

A former NTV journalist is among the winners in the just concluded by-elections in various parts of the country.

Esther Mwihaki, who served as the Murang'a region correspondent for the media house, was on Wednesday, December 16 declared the winner of the Gaturi MCA Seat.

She was running on the little-known People's Empowerment Party and managed to defeat Jubilee's Rosemary Wakuthie, who was favoured to win.

Mwihaki clinched the seat with 3,974 votes while Wakuthie, who had served as the area MCA between 2013 and 2017, got 3,423 votes.

Zablon Mwangi of Narc Kenya came in third with 1,024 votes.

"I want to thank my family for supporting and praying me. I am grateful to the people of Gaturi have decided and they have shown their love to me. I feel humbled," she exclaimed.

The seat fell vacant after the death of Cyrus Mbembe who succumbed to cancer in September 2020. Mbembe had won the seat in 2017 vying as an independent candidate.

Other winners in the just-concluded by-election include Feisal Bader who clinched the Msambweni seat by edging out ODM's Omar Boga.

Others were Dickson Kaari who was elected Dadaso MCA after garnering 2,499 votes

Samuel Otieno was declared the duly elected County Ward Assembly Representative for Kisumu North after amassing 4,566 votes while Simon Wanyoike won the Lakeview Ward seat with 1,451 votes.

Following the elections, the Jubilee party released a statement thanking those who participated and made spirited efforts to win.

“We thank our candidates Wakuthi Rosemary, Collins Gift and Mathu George Njoroge for having out up spirited efforts and fight, you did your best,” the statement read in part.
