10 Die as 394 More Test Positive for Covid-19

Kenya has recorded 394 Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours as the country's total caseload rises to 92,853.

In a press statement on Wednesday, December 16, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that 5,752 samples had been tested in the last 24 hours. The country has so far conducted 984,435 Covid-19 tests. 

Of the positive cases, 271 are males and 123 are female. The youngest case is a two-year-old baby and the oldest is aged 93 years.

At the same time, 424 patients have recovered with 303 discharged from the home-based care program and 121 from the hospital around the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 74,403.

Currently, there are 810 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide and 6,172 on Home Based Isolation and Care.

46 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 23 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 16 on supplemental oxygen while another 7 are on observation.

Another 47 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 36 are in the general wards. 11 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Regrettably, 10 patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 1,614.

The distribution of the cases by Counties is as follows ; Nairobi 167, Mombasa 59, Taita Taveta 32, Kwale 21, Kilifi 20, Nyeri 13, Kiambu 12, Nandi 7, Kakamega 7 , Siaya 6 , Kajiado 6 , Bungoma6 , Nakuru 5 , Meru 5 , Nyamira 5 , Migori 5 , Kisii 4 , Kisumu 3, Turkana 2 , Murang'a 2 , Machakos 2 , Narok 1 , Mandera 1, Vihiga 1 , Homa Bay 1 , and Lamu 1.

In terms of Sub County Distribution ; the 167 cases in Nairobi are from Lang'ata (31), Westlands (21), Kibra (17) , Dagoretti North, Kasarani and Makadara (10) cases each, Ruaraka (9), Dagoretti South, Embakasi Central, Embakasi South, Embakasi West and Roysambu (7) cases each, Embakasi East, Kamukunji, and Starehe ( 6 ) cases each, Mathare (4) and Embakasi North (2) .

In Mombasa, the 59 cases are from Mvita (24) , Kisauni (12) ,Changamwe and Jomvu (7) cases each, Likoni (5) , Nyali (4). In Taita Taveta , the 32 cases are from Voi (32) and Wundanyi (2) .In Kwale all the 21 cases are from Msambweni. In Kilifi, the 20 cases are from Kilifi North (12), Malindi (6) , Kaloleni (1) and Magarini (1).
