An emotional father has shared the pain of losing his 10-year-old grade two pupil who drowned in Karen, Nairobi

Suluman Mango Owino spoke with Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, January 5, stating that he was shocked after the body of his son was found at the dam.

Owino reported the incident at Karen Police Station on Wednesday, December 30, the same day the son, Barrack Obama Mango, passed away.

In his statement, he said Obama drowned at 11 am after falling into a dam in Ngong Forest.

The boy had accompanied two of his friends to collect firewood in the forest.

"I am at City Mortuary today and I brought my wife all the way from Siaya County. She could not believe the news.

"The police have not yet followed up on the issue despite the property being owned by the government. I don't know whether I should sue the government or not. That is a case I will follow up after we bury him upcountry," he stated.

He wondered why the dam was left unguarded or unprotected as the area was often used by local residents.

Owino said that he was a private security guard at a residential house in Kabwagi, Karen.

"Ni kawaida ya dunia. Sina cha kusema (It’s a normal occurrence to lose loved ones)," he added.

The police are investigating a similar incident in Githurai, Nairobi County after five children died when a septic tank gave way on January 2.
