The Kiambu murder mystery where a couple and three family members were killed has taken a new twist after the detectives arrested a son who was reported missing.
On Saturday morning, January 9, detectives announced that they had found the breakthrough in the murder case, linking the son to the death of his kin.
The youth had switched off his phone but police managed to track down his last signal at his hideout in Lower Kabete, Kiambu County
A lady believed to be his girlfriend, who sells goods at Biafra in Thika, was also arrested.
The investigators disclosed that they would interrogate the student, a prime suspect in the case, to find out why he remained silent over the murders.
Kiambu County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga had earlier on stated that the university student couldn't be traced, days after the family members were murdered.
Detectives presumed that a close family member had coordinated the attack on Njoroge Warunge, an American-based nurse who was stabbed 34 times after watching his wife, two children and another relative killed.
They ruled out robbery and argued that the missing son may the answer to the puzzle after he went missing.
"The house is well fenced with a perimeter wall and razor wire and there was no sign the killers struggled to gain entry by breaking in.
"There is no doubt that the killers used someone close to the family to gain access to the house," Kiambu County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga said.
His two other sisters were reported to be safe and sound as they had reported to school.
The investigators are also hunting down for five other individuals suspected to have been part of a gang which coordinated with a family member to murder the deceased.
A government pathologist will release postmortem results on Monday, January 11.
