Khaminwa added that they would try their best to ensure Sonko honours court sessions as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said that they were waiting for him to be presented in Kiambu.

Sonko will also be arraigned at the Kahawa West Law Courts in Kamiti later today, Tuesday, to answer to terror-related charges. DCI claimed that he was financing the purchase of firearms and was a leader of a secret militant group.

The state prosecutor asked that the court allows Sonko's detention for 30 days to finalise the investigations.

Detectives are also racing against time to provide evidence in another case where he was accused of fraud. State prosecutors alleged that he demanded Ksh10 million from a Nairobi company in a flawed tender process. The firm was bidding to secure a contract to collect revenue in the county.

The former governor was also accused of invading private property in May 2019 and assaulted civilians in Buruburu estate. Sonko denied all the charges.

Sonko had lamented that his life was in danger and alleged that an unknown assailant had attempted to poison him through an injection while he was in jail.

Through his lawyers, John Khaminwa, Assa Nyakundi, and Wilfred Nyamu, Sonko said that he was being tortured psychologically by some of the police officers, who reportedly made him sleep on the floor at Gigiri Police Station.

The court denied him bail after the prosecution said that he was a flight risk and would tamper with evidence and witnesses. They claimed that Sonko once escaped Shimo la Tewa Prison in 1998.
