Ex-ICC Judge Joyce Aluoch was appointed to chair the newly formed Cricket Normalisation Committee by the Sports Culture & Heritage Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed.
The committee was formed following consultations with the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Judge Aluoch who is the former judge of the High Court of Kenya also worked at the International Criminal Court(ICC) where she served as the presiding judge of Trial Chamber IV from 2009 to 2018.
She will chair the committee whose members are justice Alnashir Visram, Mrs. Jane Muigai Kampuis, Eng Morris Aluanga, and Dr. Walter Ongeti.
They are to serve with secretariat committee members Jaxon Indakwa, Rizpha Mukonyo, Mercy Oiro and Caroline Kariuki.
The committee was mandated to ensure the compliance of cricket Kenya with ICC requirements, facilitation of officials' elections, and the operations of the body including the team preparations for local and international events.
CS Amina also tasked the committee to finalize and validate the draft constitution in line with the sports Act 2013 and ICC statutes. She provided a work plan with deadlines for the tasks.
"Nothing is going to be lost. In fact, I think we are at a better place today than we were yesterday when we had no office bearers, no access to resources because any that are here have been locked in an account, and no money coming from the ICC because again, that was all suspended, but today we are in a better place because we have a normalization committee in place,” said Amina
Kenya joined the ICC in 1981 as an associate member. It qualified in second place at the 1994 ICC trophy. It's been winning until 2003. In 2010, governance gaps affected the teams' performance and growth.
In July 2018, Cricket Kenya was suspended due to non-compliance with ICC Membership criteria. The CS met with the ICC president to resolve the issues and got Kenya 6 months grace period.
Internal disagreements ended In court proceedings that attracted another suspension order in December 2020. Kenya lost rights to take part in future ICC events including the 2022 commonwealth Games Qualifier. The CS through the committee hopes to restore cricket Kenya's glory.
