Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has warned university students and teachers planning to sit exams for other candidates that they will be arrested and imprisoned.
The CS disclosed that some teachers and students from the universities had been hired to sit for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams on behalf of weak students.
Magoha stated that police officers would be stationed at every examination centre, and that many others will be conducting patrols to arrest anyone who will be found helping candidates to cheat.
"The concept of two policemen minimum for every centre manager will be maintained. Those with large numbers of candidates must have three or four officers.
"This is my last warning, if you intend to be bold enough to do this, you will be arrested and thrown into prison," he asserted.
Magoha noted that issues of cheating were often rampant during KCSE examinations, urging centre managers to ensure they carried the right content while collecting papers from candidates.
He, however, noted that the circumstances under which students were doing exams were difficult, encouraging them to feel free and relaxed during the exam period.
While giving the final briefing regarding the completed KCPE examinations, Magoha said that no irregularities had been reported during the KCPE examinations, and was happy with how the teachers had conducted themselves.
"The teachers followed fully with the Covid-19 protocols. The children were kept safe and there was abundant water and soap, and sanitizers. We must not take this for granted," said the CS.
Magoha further stated that the marking process for the KCPE exam papers had already kicked off.
According to the CS, Ksh7.5 billion secondary school capitation funds had been released ahead of KCSE examinations, that will be used to cater for the logistics of the national exam.
