A Nyeri billionaire accused of hiring a hitman to kill his son has written to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) asking them to carry out fresh investigations into the murder. He asked the DCI to probe his son's wife.

In the letter copied to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Stephen Wang'ondu stated that he was ready to provide any information that would help with the investigations into the murder of his 32-year-old son Daniel Mwangi in January 2021.

Wang'ondu said that he wanted DCI to consider recording statements from Mwangi's wife.

Daniel Mwangi was found lying in a pool of blood on January 1, 2021 outside his home in Mweiga town.

He claimed that before Mwangi died, there had been an exchange of messages between him and his wife's family members.

"In penning this letter, I recognise that in the exercise of the powers conferred upon your office, you are enjoined to always have regard for public interest and the need to prevent and avoid abuse of office, power, and legal process," he wrote.

He added that Mwangi's wife had visited him at his home a day before he was arrested, and warned him that he would be taken in.

"I believe that I am being fixed by some of my family members that are eyeing my estate," he stated.

The departed was found lying in a pool of blood on January 1, 2021, outside his home in Mweiga town. Nothing was stolen from him or his house, not even his Volkswagen Golf car which was in the compound.

Police arrested five individuals; Wang'ondu, his driver James Mahinda, Geoffrey Warutumo, Eddy Kariuki, and Raphael Wachira in connection with the murder, with reports alleging that the suspects may have been paid Ksh160,000 to kill the young man.

One of the suspects allegedly hired to commit the murder revealed that the Nyeri businessman was in love with his son's wife, something that reportedly caused a rift between Wang'ondu and his son.

The matter is still under investigation.
