Former Homeboyz Radio presenter Shaffie Weru served his former employer with a demand letter asking to be paid Ksh21,157,500 for unfair and unlawful termination of his contract.

The media personality in a letter that circulated online on Tuesday, March 30, is demanding one month’s salary in lieu of notice amounting to Ksh682,500, 12 months’ salary for unfair termination amounting to Ksh8,190,000, and gratuity (one month for every year of service) amounting to Ksh12,285,000.

“Due to our client’s exceptional performance, good work and demonstrated leadership, our client won several media personality awards and was promoted to various positions within the company.

“At the time of termination of his employment, he held the position of Programs Controller- Homeboyz Radio earning a gross salary of Ksh628,500 exclusive of other allowances and medical benefits,” the letter read.

The letter went on to reveal that Shaffie received calls and screenshots on March 27 past working hours alerting him that he had been terminated from work.

“Indeed and shockingly so, the aforesaid termination of our client’s employment services through social media was confirmed to our client when he checked his WhatsApp messages on the morning of March 27 and saw a letter circulating on social media forwarded to him by yourselves on March 26,” the letter from MMA Advocates read.

Shaffie was suspended on March 26 on charges of making inappropriate and sensitive comments in a breakfast show he hosted.

“Further, without basing your findings on any investigations whatsoever and solely basing a purported decision on “social media investigators and jury” you concluded that our client was guilty of gross misconduct for purportedly making inappropriate and insensitive comments on March 25 while your summary dismissal letter refers to inappropriate and insensitive comments made on March 24. Our client is still lost and confused about the exact comments you collude at,” the letter read.

In the letter, Radio Africa has been given seven days to meet the demands failure to which the appropriate legal action will be taken.

Homeboyz Radio terminated the contracts of Shaffie Weru, Joseph Munoru (Dj Mfalme), and Neville Muysa on Sunday, March 28, over gross misconduct and egregious breach of the company’s editorial policies.
