Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has assured the country that the government has put in place robust measures to protect Kenyans from the Covid-19 Indian variant reported in Uganda.
In the Friday briefing, Kagwe stated that Kenya's border points are sufficiently monitored by health officials.
“There has been concerns from a section of Kenyans concerning the situation in India...Those coming in and going out of the country must strictly adhere to the travel Covid-19 protocols.
We continue to monitor the situation on this virus and emerging issues will be communicated to the public as and when it arises. As for now, there is no cause for worry,” added Kagwe.
In the last 24 hours, Kenya has recorded 497 new Covid-19 cases, from a sample size of 5117 tested in the last 24 hours with a positivity rate of 9.7% per cent.
441 patients have recovered from the disease,366 from home-based care, and 75 from various health facilities.
Of the cases,492 are Kenyans while five are foreigners.282 are males and 215 are females. The youngest is a six-month-old baby while the oldest is 96 years.
Total recoveries now stand at 108,565 out of which 79,057 are from home-based care and isolation, while 29,508 are from various health facilities.
On a sad note, 17 deaths have been reported over the past twenty-four hours, 13 on diverse dates within the last one month and four being late death reports from facility record audits. The cumulative deaths so far are at 2724.
A total of 1,311 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 6650 patients are on Home-based isolation and care.
188 patients are in the intensive care unit (ICU), 32 of whom are on ventilatory support and 120 on supplemental oxygen. 36 patients are on observation.
As of today, a total of 876,708 persons have been vaccinated against the Covid-19 disease countrywide. Of these 271,079 are aged years and above, Health workers are 157,211 , Teachers 135,957 while Security officers are 73,544 while 238,917 are in other categories.
