The Ministry of Health has announced that the positivity rate has gone down from 20% to 16% since President Uhuru Kenyatta announced the cessation of movement in Kajido, Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos and Nakuru.
According to a statement from Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Friday, April 23, the number of patients relying on oxygen has dropped, the ICU occupancy rate is slowing decreasing and the fatality rate has also gone down.
At the same time, 773 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 from a sample size of 7,036 tested in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate for the latest updates stands at 11%.
754 of the positive cases are Kenyans while 19 are foreigners. 450 are males and 323 are female. The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 155,165 and the total number of tests done so far are 1,631,699.
Fortunately, 726 individuals had recovered, 397from various health facilities while 329 were from home based care. The total number of recoveries now stands at 106,093..
Regrettably, 23 succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of fatalities to 2,583.
10 of the deaths reported occurred on diverse dates within the last one month while 13 are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits.
Currently, 1,469 patients are admitted in various health facilities across the country, with 6,795 on Home Based Isolation and Care.
There 236 patients in the ICU, 53 of whom require ventilatory support and 153 who require supplemental oxygen. 30 patients are on observation.
Another 162 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 150 of them in general wards while 12 are in High Dependency Units (HDU).
The Ministry announced that a total of 802,760 persons have been vaccinated against the disease countrywide. Of this, 462,256 are aged 58 years and above.
150,465 are health workers, 123, 262 are teachers while 66,777 are security officers.
