Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai confirmed the arrest, adding that the matter was being investigated as a murder case. .

β€œHe has been arrested and is now under investigation for murder,” the IG stated.

The incident came just two days after two officers accused of shooting and killing a businesswoman in 2018, were found guilty of manslaughter.

High Court judge Stella Mutuku ruled that the constables shot with the aim of killing businesswoman Janet Waiyaki and her nephew.

She indicated that the officers had acted recklessly.

There was no shooting from inside the vehicle. By using the firearms to stop the car, they used force and acted contrary to the law," Justice Mutuku ruled.

In recent years, there has been an increase in indiscipline cases in the police force with some officers using their riffles to commit felonies.

In January 2020, the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) released a report revealing that the spike in murder and suicide cases among police officers could be linked to the limited supervision of junior officers residing outside police camps.

"Stagnation in rank, disciplinary actions arising from desertion and inadequate monitoring of junior officers leaving outside police lines are among causes of stress in officers identified," reads an excerpt of the statement.
