Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) foiled a daring robbery attempt by a gang of six men at a hardware store in Eastleigh on Wednesday, July 21.
In a statement, DCI indicated that the six had broken into Jamarat hardware in Eastleigh’s 4th street before they were busted by the officers from Pangani Police Station.
The officers acted on a tip-off and were able to gun down two of the suspected robbers who attempted to escape.
Four members of the gang, however, managed to evade arrest.
"Earlier, the misfits had arrived at the hardware aboard a pickup truck to stage their brazen robbery but the timely response by the officers left them scampering on their heels for dear life.
"They were armed with firearms in a bid to evade arrest, fired at the fast-approaching officers, with their bullets missing the Corporal leading the onslaught by a whisker," reads an excerpt of the statement.
The officers recovered a pistol with three 9mm rounds, crowbars and other crude weapons.
Additionally, two water tanks that the suspects planned on stealing were also recovered.
Police are currently pursuing the four suspects who escaped and have put other criminals on notice.
The incident came just days after police officers recovered a firearm from a suspected robber in Kasarani.
The robber, who was fatally injured, had allegedly accosted a pedestrian on her way to work.
"The thugs had just snatched a handbag from a lady who was walking home and opened fire on concerned members of the public, who were responding to her distress call," DCI stated.
