A matatu driver fled from the scene of an accident in Mlolongo after ramming into a personal vehicle on Wednesday, August 11.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the driver of the matatu tried to access the door as the 33-seater bus reversed without control.
Another matatu that had stopped on the road saw the danger posed by the recklessly driven mini-bus and began driving away.
A passenger jumped into the wheel and tried to take control of the vehicle but unfortunately engaged the forward gear - ramming into the Toyota Prado, which had stopped.
Shortly after, occupants of the personal vehicle alighted from the vehicle and examined the damage caused by the rogue driver.
The two men believed to be of Chinese nationality began trailing the suspect on foot.
"Oh my! Has he escaped? He rammed into a vehicle driven by Chinese nationals," a bystander was heard lamenting.
This incident adds to the number of accidents caused by matatus being driven by individuals without driving experience.
According to the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA), any individual found driving a public vehicle without a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) license is liable to a Ksh5,000 fine if found guilty.
In addition, a licensed PSV driver who lets an unauthorized person drive a PSV vehicle will also be fined Ksh5,000 if found guilty of the offense.
Reckless and unauthorised drivers pose a risk not only to themselves but also to passengers and other road users.
In 2018, a driver of a pimped matatu rammed into a police patrol car in Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), destroying its rear bumper and boot.
The driver and other individuals who were hanging precariously from the windows and doors fled the scene after the mishap.
