On Wednesday, August 18, DP Ruto denigrated officials of One Kenya Alliance for their apparent strife in picking their flag bearer for the 2022 polls. He called them out for tribal divisiveness which blocked them from coming to an agreement.
"We have two sets of competitors. We have one group that is still struggling with tribalism, they run tribal parties. They can not even agree on a candidate because everyone has gone to the party with their tribal chief," deconstructed Deputy President William Ruto.
Equality, The Soul of Liberty
Members of Parliament have backed a new bill that seeks to revise the proportion of shared parental responsibilities between men and women.
The Children (Amendment) Bill of 2001 is aimed at equalizing responsibilities between both parents of a child. If it passes, men will have equal responsibility with women in the custody and upkeep of their children.
Not So Privileged Afterall
Government security agencies, including the Immigration Department and the National Police Service, are converging efforts and resources to review Kenya’s VIP protocols.
The agencies are seeking to streamline privileges enjoyed by top officials. This is due to reports of abuse of these privileges.
This new move follows the flagging and eventual deportation of Turkish businessman Harun Aydin.

Abolish! Abolish! Abolish!
The National Assembly will review a petition proposing the abolishment of the mandatory requirement of a certificate of good conduct for job seekers.
The petitioner, Susan Wangui, complained that the current law infringes on the right of Kenyans looking for sustainable income.
With the current laws, persons with a criminal history are barred from applying for a government job until a period of 20 years lapses.
Nabbed Under False Pretenses
Two suspects were apprehended on August,18 and accused of obtaining loans of up to Ksh10 million from three financial institutions. They are accused of doing so by impersonating people - including State House spokesperson Kanze Dena.
They were questioned by law enforcement officers on the possible manipulation of logbooks used as security to obtain funds. At the time of arrest, the duo was found with fourteen logbooks.
Kenya’s Sportswear Gets Elevated
Sportswear giant Nike has availed the Olympic Kits donned by Kenya's athletes in the recently ended Tokyo Olympics.
The Olympics kits were designed by Allan Mbasu, Philip Muthuni and Patrick King'ori. The trio emerged top in a design competition organized by the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) in collaboration with the Kenyan Fashion Council.
Pieces, including running trousers and wet weather jackets, are retailing at prices north of Ksh15,000 each.
