President Uhuru Kenyatta directed the Laikipia County Commissioner to oversee the rebuilding of 40 houses that were torched by bandits in Ol Moran.

The President also directed relevant government agencies to make sure the families who were displaced are taken back to their homes.

On Wednesday, October 20, the national government and the Laikipia County administration moved to distribute food to members of the Ol Moran community who were affected by the chaos that hit the region in the last two months.

Residents who spoke to the press stated that they did not have food since the bandits had destroyed their land and in some cases crops.

Laikipia County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri stated that they had listed 40 families who the government will help get back to their feet.

He also appealed to residents who had moved out of the area to return assuring them of their security.

After the attacks in September 2020, over 150 families in Ol Moran spent nights in the cold after incendiaries torched 40 houses barely 24 hours after the National Security Advisory Council meeting on insecurity in the area.

Residents were forced to flee from their homes over the widespread insecurity despite police operations. Those who remained behind joined police officers, searching through the remains of their houses in an effort to salvage their valuables.

Following multiple calls by the government for the bandits to cease the attacks, Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i announced the beginning of a ruthless security operation in Laikipia, aimed at restoring peace.

Matiang'i revealed that the government had started training a special security unit, which pitched camp in the troubled Laikipia area to flush out the brigands, who proved to be a thorn in the flesh of the security of the residents and their property.

He insisted that the operation will be ruthless and will start every day at the announced curfew hours from 6 pm till calmness is restored.

The CS added that he will also join part of the operation by making regular helicopter surveillance in the area.
