New details have emerged about a Chinese national arrested in Parklands, Nairobi, over faking a kidnap.
Yuan Thi Hua was arrested by police in an apartment where she had been staying for days, demanding a ransom of Ksh500,000 from her unsuspecting boyfriend.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Wednesday, October 27, the Officer Commanding Kilimani police station, Muturi Mbogo, revealed that the woman was not in her right state of mind when she orchestrated the 'kidnap'.
"We discovered that she had a psychological problem and was taken for counselling," Mbogo disclosed.
However, Mbogo denied to comment on whether or not she would be arraigned in court as earlier intended, stating that the case was off his jurisdiction.
"The matter is now being handled by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), I can no longer comment on the issue," he stated.
Hua, who has been living with her Chinese boyfriend in an apartment in Kilimani, went missing under unclear circumstances. This prompted her spouse to report the matter to the Kilimani Police Station.
From her hideout she allegedly sent her boyfriend images of herself, with her legs and arms tied and her mouth covered.
In addition, she colluded with a man yet to be identified by the police to make calls to her unsuspecting boyfriend. Her accomplice threatened to bring harm to her should the money not be paid.
All the while, she waited for her ransom in the apartment where she was paying Ksh5,000 per night.
“It is criminal to lie at large, and she will be prosecuted in court. We are trying to establish if there were other players in the incident,” the police stated at the time of her arrest.
The incident comes barely a month after another woman faked her abduction to swindle money from her husband to elope with her lover, a taxi driver.
