A mother of one of the victims who passed away in the ill-fated Mwingi bus at Enziu River has recounted the last call she had with her daughter.

Father Jeremiah Munyoki, who is in charge of the institution that released the bus, narrated that he visited the deceased, Judy Mutinda's home after the tragedy.

Judy's mother disclosed that on the fateful Saturday, December 4, the daughter had called her to inform her that River Enziu was flooded.

She further warned her mother to be prepared for the worst in case the then raging waters swept the bus away.

"When we visited Madam Judy Mutinda's home with five members of staff from here, the mother narrated to us how they talked with Judy when they reached the river.

"Judy calls and says, 'Mom, we are here, we are waiting for the water to subside and just in case we are swept off by this river, know that your last born has died in this river. But don't worry, I have a son, who is named after your husband. Take care of him,'" narrated Munyoki.

Father Munyoki further noted that he felt responsible for the tragedy that led to the death of 33 people after the bus was swept away.

He noted that he saw the bus trending online and when he called the main center, he was informed of the tragedy. It occurred shortly after he released the bus to ferry the individuals to the wedding.

"I received so many calls and when I turned on the data, I found some video clips on social media about our bus.

"101 questions have come to me. I regret why I released the bus. I have cried under my sheets in bed and said I was responsible for the death of these 33 people. It is our bus. If I couldn't have released it, maybe, they could be alive," he recounted.

The tragedy claimed over 33 bodies, 20 of which have positively been identified by their kin and released for burial.

The family of the groom lost over 10 members in the heartbreaking incident that saw over 33 people lose their lives.

The groom, Mutua Mbuvi, narrated that the news was broken to them shortly after they had exchanged their vows.

"Shortly after we exchanged the vows, the news was broken to us. We were told that our children had drowned. 10 of them, my own, all drowned," he stated.
