Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has heeded to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) summons and surrendered to police.

Confirming the development, Kakamega Central Sub-County Police Commander David Kabena told the press that the lawmaker surrendered to Kakamega Central Police Station on the evening of Monday, December 27.

He further clarified that his controversial statement regarding a scheduled Bukhungu Stadium rally was not meant to whip out emotions from the public.

Malala explained that he made it as a political statement and and was not intended to cause violence.

“He (Malala) clarified that what he said during the Maragoli Cultural Festival was a political statement, and that he does not intend to use violence or incite his followers into chaos during the rally.

“Malala said he will maintain peace during the rally. He further said that on Friday, during the Bukhungu II event, he will be at Mumias; 32 kilometres away from the convention,” the commander told The Standard.

NCIC summoned the Senator on Monday over remarks he made in Mbale, where he threatened to stop a section of leaders from accessing Bukhungu Stadium.

While speaking to the media on December 26, Malala vowed to block Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Raila Odinga, and Central Organization or Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General, Francis Atwoli, from accessing the Bukhungu Stadium on December 31.

"We have today summoned Senator Cleophas Malala to answer for his regrettable statements that allegedly meant to lock out a  political candidate from holding a meeting at Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega slated for December 31, 2021," the statement read in part.

Kobia stated that Malala will face the full force of the law, adding that his sentiments make him a prime candidate for inclusion in the wall of shame.
