Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, visited Jacaranda Grounds on Tuesday, January 18, days after a rally at the same venue hosted by Deputy President (DP) William Ruto nearly turned chaotic.

The first time legislator was received by a mammoth crowd who chanted his name while welcoming him.

In a statement, the former University of Nairobi (UoN) student leader revealed that he had gone to the area to distribute bursary cheques.

While addressing the gathering, Babu underscored the importance of education and urged parents to keep their children in school explaining that tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.

Chaos erupted on Sunday, January 16, during Deputy President William Ruto's rally at the Jacaranda Grounds.

Videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed a section of the crowd engaged in running battles forcing police officers to lobe teargas to disperse a rowdy crowd.

This was after a group of rowdy youth attempted to disrupt the rally, demanding to be addressed by Babu Owino.

"We do not want money, we want Babu. We do not want money, we want Baba (Raila Odinga)," the youth chanted.

Officers from the Anti-Riot Police unit were deployed to restore calm at the grounds after which the rally continued.

While addressing the crowd, Ruto blamed Raila for the pandemonium witnessed.

"Mr Kitendawili shame on you for organising these young men to pelt stones yet you are enjoying yourself," the DP claimed.

He further declared that he would not be intimidated by such events which were nothing more than sideshows.

"I want to tell our competitors, those who have a history of causing chaos. Those who like mobilizing youth to pelt stones and swear in themselves, we will not be intimidated," he added.

In a statement, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary-General, Veronica Maina, accused Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i of being too slow in taking action against perpetrators of the chaos.

She accused Matiang'i of turning a blind eye to what happened alleging that the CS supports Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga's presidential bid.

"Matiangi has publicly supported Raila. We are asking him to take off the political hat and save Kenyans from political intolerance. His ministry has remained silent on the matter but has acted very swiftly in other incidences," Maina wrote.
