Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki, has resigned.

CS Kariuki announced her resignation on Wednesday, February 9. She is eyeing the Nyandarua gubernatorial seat that is currently held by former Secretary to the Cabinet Francis Kimemia.

The CS, who is a very close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, is eyeing the ruling Jubilee Party ticket.

Addressing the press, Kariuki stated that she will be taking her 30 years of experience to serve Nyandarua County and help the residents realize their potential.

"This follows months of listening to the people of Nyandarua who have come to trust me, my concern for them, my vision, my commitment and my dedication and capability to accelerate development in Nyandarua," CS Kariuki stated.

"I am committed, as I will demonstrate in days to come, to work with like-minded leaders in the county of Nyandarua and the national government to ensure peace and development that Nyandarua longs for is realized."

CS Kariuki wished her colleagues at the Water and Sanitation Ministry well as she announced her resignation. She also maintained that she will not be leaving Jubilee Party after getting reassurance from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The CS promised to address the escalating cases of insecurity in the county and resolve the power struggle between the county executive and the county assembly, which she noted had affected the development agenda.

Her resignation came shortly after the Director of Youth and Development in the Office of the President, Walter Mong'are, popularly known as Nyambane, announced that he was stepping down from his role to contest in the August polls. He, however, did not disclose the position he will be going for.

The Kenyan High Commissioner to Uganda, Kiema Kilonzo, also announced his resignation after three years of service to contest for the Kitui Gubernatorial race.

Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) director, Kello Harsama, also announced his resignation to contest for the Marsabit Gubernatorial seat.

“I wish to thank the Government of Kenya for offering me an opportunity to serve as a distinguished civil servant for twenty-seven years,” he stated in his letter to Agriculture CS Peter Munya.
