Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has now revealed the future of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) after the August 9 General Election.
Speaking on Wednesday February 9 after touring St Mary's Mukunike High School in Kagundo Machakos, Magoha noted that the Ministry of Education and stakeholders will be happy if the implementation of the syllabus continues.
The CS warned against politicising CBC arguing that the curriculum is learner oriented that best suits the country's education system.
He expressed his worries that any plans to scrap the curriculum will affect the parents,students and even reverse the heavy investment President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration has channeled towards its implementation.
"I want to assure that we have carried out own children through all the education levels as contained in CBC and they are sitting for their exams in less than a year. Do you think these people will allow you to mess up with their education? Magoha posed.
"Talk to Kenyan mothers they will tell you how good CBC is because I have been stopped by people telling me the success stories of CBC."
Explaining that he intends to go home when President Uhuru's term lapses, Magoha noted that it would be in the best interest if the next government continues with the implementation of CBC.
"I want to leave with him (President Uhuru) but when the new government comes hope they will make the right choices. I would want my granddaughter to go through CBC," Magoha stated.
His sentiments come after some Kenya Kwanza leaders hinted at doing away with CBC should the faction assume power after the upcoming polls.
Speaking during a political rally accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto, Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi noted that CBC was implemented in a rush that is why they intend to abolish it once their coalition takes over.
"The controversial Competence-Based-Curriculum of education will be scraped once the Ruto/Mudavadi government takes power in August," Mudavadi reiterated his comments through a social media post shared on Sunday February 6.
On the country's preparation to conduct national examinations slated for March, Magoha stated that security officers will be deployed to volatile areas and also assured parents that no candidate will be denied access to exams.
He further revealed that a total of 700 classrooms have been constructed across the country in preparation for the CBC transition.
