Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday, February 9, met another hostile crowd  in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County during a joint tour of the region accompanied by his Kenya Kwanza principals, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, a youthful crowd in Kitale jeered as the convoy ferrying the three Kenya Kwanza leaders as it made its way into the Kenyatta Stadium in Kitale town.

The crowd began chanting the name of a former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya, continuously and in the presence of Ruto, Mudavadi and Wetangula.

The three principals, however, pushed on with their rally but a number of speakers including Ford Kenya Party leader Moses Wetangula had their speeches interrupted by youth praising Natembeya.

"Those who were ferried here to cause chaos, please keep quiet and wait for our guests to leave," the area MCA pleaded with the crowd at one point.

Wetangula urged residents to support the Kenya Kwanza Alliance by voting for its candidates at all levels.

"Do not become emotional and make a mistake. We don't want people who have been brought here by puppet parties like DAP. If you look at that party, it's ODM disguised in new colours. Vote for Kenya Kwanza candidates in the MCA, MP, Senate, Woman Rep, Governor and President level," the Bungoma Senator pleaded amid jeers from a section of the crowd.

It was the second time that the Kenya Kwanza Alliance had faced a hostile crowd after they were on Tuesday, February 8, greeted with pro-Azimio chants during a campaign stop in Khwisero - the home town of Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli.

The Kitale incident also happened barely hours after Maurice Kakai, the former Head of Information and Computing Technology (ICT) and Strategy in the DP's office, Maurice Kakai, defected from UDA to DAP-K on Wednesday morning.

He was welcomed alongside other defectors by the DAP-K party leader, Wafula Wamunyinyi and Defence Cabinet Secretary, Eugene Wamalwa at Chui House, Nairobi.

Kakai was posed to challenge Natembeya under a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket. However, he announced that he had shelved his gubernatorial ambition in favour of the ex-Rift Valley boss and instead focus on the Kiminini parliamentary seat.

Natembeya declared interest in the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat announcing that he would vie on a Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) ticket, which is affiliated to Azimio la Umoja-Kenya Kwanza's main rival.
