Foreign Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Ababu Namwamba has resigned from President Uhuru Kenyatta's government.

The announcement was made on Thursday, February 10, where the former Bundalangi Member of Parliament thanked President Kenyatta.

Namwamba resigned just a day after he was appointed as the Head of International Relations in Deputy President William Ruto's Presidential Campaign team.

A month ago, Namwamba joined a growing list of politicians who announced that they will not contest for any elective seat in the August polls.

Namwamba refuted reports implying that he was to vie for a political seat in the upcoming General Election, adding that he intends to work closely with DP Ruto to actualize his presidential ambitions.

He reiterated that he believed DP Ruto was best suited to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta when the Head of State's term ends after August polls.

“I am going to be working very closely with Ruto to deliver his presidency. I believe he offers this country a fresh beginning. I believe this country is at the cusp of a new start that has a paradigm shift in how the affairs of Kenya can be managed," Namwamba stated.

The CAS dismissed claims that he was backing DP Ruto with hopes of being part of the team that will form the next government.

On Wednesday, February 9, DP Ruto's presidential campaign team issued a statement where they announced Namwamba the Head of International Relations in spearheading Ruto's bid.

"We have worked closely with Ababu over the past 10 years on many fronts and I have come to value his leadership, experience, focus, and empathy. It is because of those qualities that I could not be more grateful to have him in our campaign team.
