Infamous NYS suspect Anne Wambere Wanjiku Ngirita has decamped from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and joined the Jubilee Party.

Speaking to the press, she affirmed that the decision was brought about after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga urged those who had defected from the Azimio La Umoja movement to return under its affiliate parties.

She pointed out that the decision to join UDA in the first place was due to peer pressure. A poster of her campaign for the Nakuru Woman Representative seat has been widely shared on social media.

"Yes I was in UDA but I exited the party. This is because Raila urged those who had defected from his party to return home and I felt like the prodigal child. Moving to UDA was out of peer pressure. Hence, I will vie for the Nakuru Woman Representative seat," she stated.

Ngirita's was at the centre of the National Youth Service (NYS) scam probe after she was implicated for receiving Ksh60 million for supplying nothing to the Service.

The scandal shone a spotlight on her family after her relatives, Phyllis Ngirita, Lucy Ngirita and Jeremiah Ngirita were also arrested.

The case dragged in court- which led to Judge Mumbi Ngugi ordering the family members to forfeit their properties to the State.

The total amount involved in the scandal amounted to approximately Ksh400 million.

"Between them, they received approximately Ksh400 million from NYS and used some of the money to acquire the properties which constitute proceeds of crime. Evidence shows that on the periods they received the money, they went on a spending spree to hide their theft,” ruled Ngugi.

Part of the properties included a vehicle, half an acre plot of land in Naivasha, two-acre land in Trans Nzoia, a quarter acre in Nakuru east, another piece of land in Naivasha, and a quarter acre land in Njoro. The value of the land amounted to Ksh100 million.

Ngirita's exit comes at a time when the political realm is shaping up as the country is 175 days away from the 2022 General Election.
