A special team of officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) arrested a murder suspect in a dramatic pursuit along Nyeri - Nairobi highway.
In a statement by the DCI on Saturday, April 2, the suspect is said to have been evading the detectives for a week forcing them to seek help from their digital forensic department.
Police stated that the 28-year-old alleged to have murdered his wife and her friend had escaped arrest earlier in Nairobi's Dandora estate after another team of officers was deployed to apprehend him.
"As the investigators drawn from Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), DCI Nairobi Regional headquarters, and Dandora closed in on him at his hideout in Dandora, the suspect escaped the dragnet throwing a spanner in the works of the investigators.
"Determined to bring the suspect to justice, the detectives went back to the drawing board and used Cyber and Digital Forensics services provided at the DCI National Forensic Laboratory," read the statement in part.
The suspect was finally cornered along the busy highway as he was returning to Nairobi after realising that a team of officers was pursuing him.
"A lean team of three swift men was dispatched towards Embu and as their hatchback descended the meandering highway towards the Sagana River bridge, the sleuths got wind that the suspect was on his way back to Nairobi, in a bid to outfox them.
"What followed was an immediate change of mission and a dramatic arrest along the highway as the suspect was ejected from a vehicle he had boarded, in a well-coordinated operation monitored at the Cyber and Digital Forensics operations room. The suspect was placed under arrest and offered a ride to the capital," the police added.
DCI noted that preliminary investigations indicate that the 28-year-old laced the food he had cooked with poison before serving it to the wife and a visitor.
"On that fateful day, his wife declined to cook as she was hosting a visitor, prompting the disgruntled husband to venture into the kitchen. It is during the preparation of the evening meal of rice and stew.
"The suspect laced it with an unspecified poison and served the two women before fleeing," the DCI added.
Additionally, the police stated that the man was taken to Dandora Police station and is awaiting to be arraigned before a court of law.
"The suspect will be arraigned on Monday for the twin murders of the two women, contrary to section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code," DCI stated.
