Police have arrested a pedestrian for allegedly surveying the newly built Nairobi Expressway.

Media reports indicated that the suspect was found at a place deemed off-limits. A police report revealed that the said person did not give satisfactory reasons forcing the cops to apprehend him on Sunday, April.

The police also pointed out that sections of the road were under tight security because of the nature of installations on the highway.

A personnel at the Moja Expressway company told Kenyans.co.ke that the measures are yet to be put in place for those found trespassing. The source, however, revealed that a disciplinary committee will be established to determine such cases.

"There are no exact measures put in place for those contradicting the regulations but currently motorists are only allowed to use if they have a permit since it's not yet open to the public," they intimated.

Further, the source affirmed that some buildings and structures located along the expressway were protected areas and under the surveillance of armed guards.

"Along the whole road, there are armed officers. in accordance to drivers, the lanes, and stations are accessible but there are other places that are reserved for the staff engineers, control room is off-limits.

On the expressway, along the toll stations, you notice that there are buildings, structures at the side are not accessible to anyone."

The company, however, maintained that the only way for motorists to access the expressway before it's opened to the public is to get a permit.

The Moja Expressway Company, an affiliate of the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), will be tasked with operating and maintaining the road for 27 years before giving the road back to the government in a Private Public Partnership agreement.

As Kenyans anticipate the launch of the Nairobi Expressway, motorists have been warned of engaging in a couple of activities along the road.

These include parking, herding livestock, scribbling, graffiti, reversing, racing, overloading, stopping, dumping waste as well as driving or occupying emergency lanes.
