11 Al Shabaab Militiamen, 2 KDF Soldiers Killed in Lamu Attack

11 suspected Al Shabab militiamen were killed early today morning in heavy combat between the terror group men and Kenya Defense Soldiers in Lamu County.

Al Shabaab is said to have been on a mission to attack the KDF camp at Baure which is roughly 40 kilometers north of Baragoni.

A heavy response by the KDF would see 11 of the terrorists get killed while others escaped with injuries.

Unfortunately, two KDF soldiers were also killed in the fight.

Firearms including 13 AK-47s, five rocket-propelled grenades and eight grenades were recovered by the military after the incident.

The whole ordeal is reported to have taken place between 5 am and 7 am Sunday.

Speaking to the press, military spokesman Col David Obonyo said “The attack was aggressively repulsed and during the firefight 11 Al-Shabaab terrorist, including two fighters of Caucasian origin, were neutralized”

Obonyo further revealed that on seeing that they stood no chance, injured militiamen fled to the nearby Boni forest and that the KDF launched a pursuit.

Citizen News reports that after the attack, the surviving militants went towards Manga area where they attacked a school and a health facility.

They allegedly stole medicine from Manga health Center and proceeded to burn it and two motorcycles that were nearby.

They further went to Manga Secondary School where they set a dormitory on fire.

No official report on casualties in the two subsequent attacks has been given so far.

Residents in the area have been cautioned to be on alert for any suspicious foreigners or people seeking medical help and to report immediately to the security forces.
