Cracks have emerged in Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga's Running Mate Selection Panel after Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua threatened to quit over what he claimed was foul play.
Speaking in Kitui, Wambua protested over the addition of Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu's name onto the list of nominated persons to be interviewed by the seven-member panel.
He claimed that there was an elaborate scheme to deny Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka the position and instead give it to the Narc party leader, who was being imposed on the people.
"If I look at the panel and realize that it is a pitfall trap so that we can be used as a rubber stamp to a decision that is not good and suitable, then me quitting the panel will be very easy," he stated.
Wambua also warned Raila that choosing Ngilu would be his downfall and that of Azimio. He added that the Kamba nation would not accept anything short of the running mate position for Kalonzo.
"Someone should tell Raila that the woman he is trying to push to the Kamba nation had been rejected by them long ago. We, the people of Kitui, and Wiper have refused to subscribe to the idea.
"The truth is that if Kalonzo Musyoka will not be the deputy president on August 9, even Raila Odinga will not be president, and you can take it to the bank," the outspoken senator added.
His comments were reiterated by Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo and Mombasa county gubernatorial hopeful Mike Sonko, who promised to bring down Azimio if the former Vice President is rigged out of the running mate position.
"We have said Kalonzo will not attend the interview on Monday. He cannot do the exam while he is the marking scheme. If he chance is given to any other person, it will be messy kitaumana” the senator reiterated
When addressing the gathering at Wote, Sonko revealed that his intelligence team had intimated that there was a plan to offer the OKA principal the speaker's position. He opined that that was below Kalonzo's level and recommended it be given to Peter Kenneth.
The panel, which is chaired by former Cabinet Minister Noah Wekesa, on May 7 noted that it was going to proceed with interviewing candidates who would avail themselves for the vetting.
