Jubilee Party has nominated Murang'a county Woman Representative Sabina Chege as one of two of its preferred running mates to Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

In a statement dated Thursday, May 5, Jubilee National Election Board, chairman Stephen Wandeto announced that Chege's name was forwarded alongside former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth who has been in the race for a while.

The two names will be considered by a seven-member selection panel that is chaired by former Cabinet Secretary Noah Wekesa.

"We refer to the above subject matter and forwarded herewith names of the persons proposed by Jubilee for consideration as the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Deputy President nominees," read the letter in part.

Sabina has been leading from the front in campaigning for the ODM party leader, establishing herself as a potential deputy. The Woman Rep, in a display of loyalty to the course, shelved her ambitions to focus on rallying votes for Odinga.

The Woman Rep. has often been spotted at the right-hand side of President Uhuru Kenyatta's handshake partner in his recent campaign trail and political meetings including today's meeting with Azimio's aspirants in Nyandarua.

On his part, Kenneth has accompanied the former Premier on his campaign trail, establishing himself as a keynote speaker in all forums. The ex-MP, who has had a stab at the presidency in 2017, dropped his bid to support Odinga.

Chege and Kenneth join Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, among the list of members who have declared interest in deputising Odinga. However, Kalonzo made it clear that he would not submit himself for interviewing by the panel.

In support of his One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principal, KANU party leader Gideon Moi on Thursday declared that his party had officially endorsed the former Vice President to become the coalition party's deputy president.

On May 1, the selection panel Secretary of the panel, Elizabeth Meyo, announced that the selection and vetting of potential running mates had begun and that a name would be submitted to Azimio's presidential candidate by May 10.

"All eminent Kenyans being considered for this important position of service will be meeting the selection panel on various days between May 4 and 10. Thereafter, the successful candidate shall be unveiled to the public by Raila Odinga," the Campaign CEO reiterated.

The candidate unveiled by Azimio will face it off with Deputy William Ruto's selection. Insiders in the DP camp have hinted that Kithure Kindiki is most likely to be picked for the position.

Azimio and Kenya Kwanza have until May 16, to submit the names of their presidential candidates and their running mates to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for presidential candidates to name their running mates.
