Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, July 6 recovered a pistol that was stolen from a police officer in June 2019 and used in the theft of over Ksh10 million.

According to the report by the DCI, the officer was a victim of  the gang of drink-spiking women which they linked to slain  businessman Samuel Muvota.

The women are said to have been in an organized crime unit, hiring the weapon to multiple gangs that reigned terror on business, targeting mobile money agents.

"Intelligence reports gathered by detectives based at the Crime Research and  Intelligence Bureau reveal that the firearm was then hired to gangsters operating from Kayole, who for the past three years have terrorized over 30 agents.

"Using the firearm, the gang made away with over Ksh10 million shillings from agents alone," read the statement in part.

The investigating agency further disclosed reports from the Forensics Ballistics unit showed that the firearm had been traced to at least 28 robbery incidences within the city, which led to the loss of lives of some victims.

In addition, some police officers who were responding to the crime reports also sustained bullet wounds while engaging the trigger-happy gang in shootouts.

Three members of the gang sustained bullet wounds in the recovery operation, while  the women who stole the gun were also taken into custody.

DCI revealed that the weapon was stolen from an officer in June 2019, who was found unconscious in Parklands, Nairobi. Notably, his weapon, a Jericho Pistol was missing from his holster prompting an immediate tracing procedure.

The gun has seen been used to carry out attacks in Kasarani, Makadara, Kayole, Kamukunji, Dandora, Buruburu, Ruai, Kikuyu, Embakasi and as far as Karatina.

Since January, there has been a spike in stupefying gangs, targeting male revelers in drinking joints across the country. Victims have lost as much as Ksh600,000 and property of unknown value.

The biggest ring busted  was the 'mchele gang' affiliated to Muvota, who was gunned down in broad daylight along Mirema Drive  in a suspected deal gone wrong.
