  • A middle-aged man is distraught after losing nearly Ksh600,000 to a woman he met at former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's new club, Club Volume in Shanzu, Mombasa County.

A statement released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday, January 31, revealed that the man had gone to the club, which was launched three weeks ago, to have a good time.

While at the club, a woman walked past his table and she reportedly asked to join him.

The two spoke while enjoying their drinks and at around 4 am, the woman informed him that they needed to leave the club and go to a hotel to rest.

He obliged and called a taxi which dropped them at Seville Apartments, where he had booked a suite for them to spend the night.

When they got to the house, the man requested to take a bath. After showering, he took a glass of juice only to wake up the next day when he heard a hotel attendant knocking on the door.

After waking up, the man realised that most of his prized possessions including, mobile phones, a laptop, and ATM cards were missing. He later discovered that his bank account had been emptied.

Sleuths from the DCI are pursuing the woman who is at large and have requested anyone with information about her to come forward.

A similar incident occurred in October 2021, when a 31-year-old woman accidentally drugged herself with a drink she had spiked to stupefy three county officials who were partying with her.

The woman was found unconscious at Shikara Apartments in Nyali, Mombasa County, along with the three men who had enjoyed a night out with her.

Her two other accomplices took flight when they realized that their partner in crime had passed out. They allegedly left with the county officials’ laptops, mobile phones and other undisclosed valuables.
