The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Nairobi senatorial candidate, Edwin Sifuna, has dismissed reports that he was hospitalised following a violent public altercation with Kileleshwa Ward MCA aspirant, Robert Alai, during an Azimio rally.

Speaking in a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke on Sunday, July 17, Sifuna sarcastically responded to ridicules that he had been admitted to a city hospital after the scuffle that was intercepted by Azimio flagbearer, Raila Odinga.

He clapped back at those who alleged that he died after succumbing to head injuries sustained during the fight.

"I am coming live from City Mortuary. I am told I was beaten and rushed to hospital where I passed away after succumbing to head injuries. How can you be wishing ill on someone?" Sifuna wondered in a rather sarcastic message.

Sifuna, who was having breakfast with Lang'ata and Dagoretti North candidates Felix 'Jalang'o' Odiwuor and Beatrice Elachi respectively, stated that he was fit and would be part of Raila's tour of Nairobi.

On his part, Alai termed the incident as a matter of ensuring that one is accorded respect regardless of their position. He further stated that he would be focusing on his Kileleshwa ward campaigns.

"Finishing strong! Let respect prevail (heshima idumu). If they don’t give it, insist on everyone being respected - poor or rich, young or old," Alai stated.

Notably, the blogger - who is throwing his hat in elective politics for the first time - did, however, not attend Azimio's tour of the city where Raila campaigned on Sunday.

In a video that has since gained traction online,  Alai and Sifuna on Saturday, July 16, engaged in a violent public altercation during a rally in Kawangware, Dagoretti North.

Raila, who was addressing the crowd, lost his cool and beckoned the MCA aspirant to retract.

"Alai, Alai. What is happening!,” Raila Odinga exclaimed as a section of politicians and security details stepped in to separate the two politicians.

The scuffle between the two leaders elicited mixed reactions from the public who condemned violence between members of the same side of the political divide, let alone those in different camps.
