As millions of Kenyans trooped to various polling stations across the country, politicians gunning for various elective seats led the way with some casting their ballots as early as 7am.

Deputy President William Ruto, who is vying for the presidency under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket, cast his ballot at Kosachei Primary School in Turbo Constituency some minutes after 7am.

Ruto was accompanied by his wife, Rachel Ruto, to exercise their democratic right.

"Everybody here wants a peaceful process. Our prayer before voting was about having a peaceful election. I am also delighted that this historic election will usher a new era for the country. I want to urge for a peaceful process," Ruto stated after voting.

Azimio la Umoja's presidential running mate, Martha Wangari Karua, arrived at Mugumo Primary School in Gichugu Constituency, Kirinyaga county, as early as 5:45 am to cast her vote.

On the other hand, Agano Party presidential candidate, David Mwaure Waihiga, cast his vote at Upperhill Secondary School, Nairobi.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential running mate, Rigathi Gachagua, cast his vote at Sagana Primary School in Mathira, Nyeri County. His wife, Dorcas Rigathi, accompanied him.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, on the hand, is a registered voter at Mutomo primary school polling station in Ichaweri, Gatundu South constituency in Kiambu county

The Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, is a registered voter at Old Kibera Primary School in the Kibra constituency.

Roots Party presidential candidate, George Luchiri Wajackoyah, cast his ballot at Indangalasia Primary School in Matungu constituency.

Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i, cast his vote at Manga Girls High school in Nyamira county while the Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, voted at Kathaka Primary School in Ndia constituency, Kirinyaga county.

The Director of Criminal Investigations, George Kinoti, voted at DEB Township Primary School in North Imenti, Meru.

In the governorship contest, UDA candidate Senator Susan Kihika voted at Ngomongo polling station in Bahati constituency, Nakuru County.

Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o gunning to defend his seat on the ODM ticket, voted at Ratta Primary School, Seme Ward, Kisumu County.

UDA Nairobi Gubernatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja is a registered voter at St Georges School in Kilimani.
